The biking season has already begun, so today we will invite you to a test drive on European EuroVelo bike trails. by bike we will discover the beauty of nature, monuments and places. Lower Austria is the starting point for unforgettable biking experiences.

The state of Lower Austria offers carefully maintained and marked cycling trails on its top 10 routes, with a length of almost 4,200 kilometers. Up to 4 of them cross the border and are part of European cycle paths. Lower Austrian sections include lighter routes as well as trails for experienced cyclists. they lead through the most beautiful areas of the country - around the Danube, deep forests or along railroad tracks.

The Danube Bike Trail (EuroVelo 6) is one of the pioneers of major European bike paths and is one of the most beautiful and popular in Central Europe. the route is lined with many monuments, attractions and beautiful places. There are many possibilities to spend the night and taste delicious Austrian cuisine and local wines. the road goes also across the Donau-Auen National Park and takes you to Bratislava.

On the Lower Austrian Iron Curtain Trail (EuroVelo 13), which stretches from Finland to the Black Sea, you will follow the footsteps of the Iron Curtain. Explore the nature park Blockheide in the Waldviertel region, enjoy dense forests, vast meadows and discover fascinating stones that are still said to have magical power. in the east of the Weinviertel you will find hilly vineyards and picturesque wine cellars. Visit the Retz wine cellar, the largest historic wine cellar in Central Europe. the route also includes the Thayatal National Park, which will captivate you with its steep rock wall. Plus, with a bit of luck you can also see a wild cat.

The Eurovelo 9 route runs from Břeclav through the Reintal border crossing and through the idyllic Weinviertel to Vienna. Along the way, Vienna Forest is waiting for you, leading to Wechsel, where it turns into a mountaineering route. you will fall in love with the Vienna Woods, as well as a short stop at the magnificent Laxenburg Castle or a tour of Wiener Neustadt, where national exhibitions "World on the Move" are held this year.

In Waldviertel, they use the former railway tracks for cycling. the Thayatal-Bahn and Göpfritz-Raabs-Bahn set the direction of the Thayarunde cycle path. There is much to discover along the cross-border cycle path between Austria and the Czech Republic: ruins and castles, old railroad remains or wild fruit trees under whose shadow you can relax and recharge your batteries.
