The Placlivy massif spreads in the Western Tatras, concretely between Smutne klippe and Ostry Rohac. the mountain is 2 125 m high and looking almost as a twin of Ostry Rohac. Together these two compose a duo of two, pointy mountains which are very typical for this part of the mountain range. Placlive is a mountain open throughout the year. you may reach it via tourist trail from Ziarska valley. the area becomes a paradise for fans of skialpinism.

We begin our trek at the mouth of Ziarska valley. at the signpost we join the blue tourist trail which goes through long yet beautiful Ziarska valley. While crossing the valley, we spot snow-capped Western Tatras. Then we reach Ziar cabin. There we take a short break. When we set out again, we go uphill the blue tourist trail through dwarf mountain pines. the trail leads us higher and higher until we leave the area of pines. Poles stuck in the ground help us to navigate in winter terrain. Eventually, we reach Ziarske klippe. Here we enjoy the vista of Smrk, Baranec, and Ziarska valley. by looking to the east, the view of Jamnicka valley opens before us. Also we can see the Otrhance. While in the klippe we join the yellow tourist trail and start hiking up to the top of Placlivy.
Final climb along steep slope is very strenous yet worthy the toil. we eventually reach the top. We are now on the main ridge of the Western tatras. the vista from Placlivy is breathtaking. Ziarska and Rohacska valleys and Ostry rohac, Volovec, and Baranec mountains lay before us. Looking down the monumental Smutna valley is dizzying and hard to describe. we can enjoy amazing 360 view of the Western Tatras, and the snow-capped High Tatars to the east. Good weather allows you to even see the silhouettes of the Low Tatras, Velka Fatra, Lucanska Mala Fatra, and Oravske Beskydy.
Placlive is one of the most visited localities of the Western Tatras for it is open all year round. Hiking up one of the main mountains in Rohace in winter, ice beauty of Western Tatras nature enchanted us and left us with great, positive impression.
