Mesice, is almost an unnoticeable town located northeast off Prague. Many would be surprised that it is there where a large chateau compound is located. the chateau also took part in a movie Pet Muzu Jednoho Srdce based on Jiri Dietl’s screenwriting.

Chateau for ROH, than a Hospital

Little bit neglected outside Mesice chateau cannot destroy your whole perception of the chateau itself. Perhaps it can even improve your impression of it due to flaked walls. Today the chateau is a healthcare institution. Well, it has been for many years. During communism it was very common that chateaus had been in decay. Or, if their fate was better, they were used for “collective good” purposes such as secret document archives, pig breeding etc.

In case of chateau Mesice, since 1948 it had been a Revolutionary Union Movement’s political school. Since the 1960s it was used as a hospital with inner medicine and neurology.

Glorious Era of the Nostices

Absolutely different life at chateau Mesice started in 1945. it was owned by the famous house of  Nostices. Nostices had their “headquartes” at chateau in Pakomerice. they had been involved in Mesice chateau since 1677- they owned the then stronghold and the whole village as well.

It took 90 years to built this palace – a Rococo chateau with argirculture buildings and stables. for a numerous servant staff, they owned two streets and several town houses. Together they created a unique architectonic-urbanistic entity. the construction was commissioned by Frantisek Antonin Nostic. Probably he gave realization of the project to the architect Antonin Haffenecker. to the torso were later added two side wings creating a court. on the first floor of the west wing there used to be a theatre

A look at a lighting conductor, a useful invention that will surprise nobody today. in Mesice, however, the very first lighting conductor a title="Čechách" href="/stat/?continent=europe&country=czech-republic" target="_blank">Bohemia was made by medicine professor Jan Tadeas Klinkos. in 1775, it was attached to the main tower. Perhaps due to the fact that chateau seemed to be not in danger of fire, a year later Josef Dobrovsky moved there for nine years.

Anyone may enter the chateau compounds, just to walk in an English park, refill energy by a pond full of fish, or imagining how it used to be when noblemen ride there horses there. Also, views of neighboring streets are interesting. Golf players can play shoot some balls in a renovated stables.
