Like everywhere in the mountains, even in the West and Low Tatra for us are lurking many pitfalls. Even common rain in the mountains can pose a significant risk. Especially on a pebble-oxide surface, which is typical for the area, the adhesion of footwear is reduced, and significantly increases the risk of slipping. If we are caught in torrential rain, which significantly changes the permeability of pavements, should be promptly discontinued hike, find a suitable shelter and wait until the weather improves. After the rain we have the transition gravelly-muddy slippery surface to increase its attention.
Rainwater in the West and Low Tatra generally flows out much slower than for example in the High Tatra. If rain keeps going, on the contrary goes into a storm, we should stop as soon as possible and hike down into the lower wooded parts, because on highest parts us apart from so-called lightning lurks natural stream or surface stricken by lightning. it spreads over rocky ribs and troughs from the ridge. When lightning hit the ridge of bedrock can be released, and it might have for us tourists, fatal consequences. the ideal shelters for mentioned situations are tourist shelters or abandoned pastures.
Fog in these mountains due to the nature of their sidewalks clear direction and does not constitute an increased risk of loss of orientation. Nevertheless, caution should be increased movement in the case of group tourism to ensure acoustic contact. If there is coming in the evening and we know that the descent would be a big risk in advance to prepare for emergency overnight stays. she considers a place, if possible, be protected from wind and rain. in good weather you can sleep in the mountains anywhere.
Heat weather causing overheating, dehydration, sunstroke occurs only sporadically. Mostly they occur only at long climb from the edge of the ridge forest. That is why you can´t forget the drinks, the more frequent breaks if it can be in the shadow under the rock block, or scrubs. All water occurring in the alpine environment of the West and a large part of the Low Tatra is very little mineralized. it can cause further dehydration, so it should be added minerals for example by making concentrate or sherbet. Moderately mineralized water sources are found only in limestone areas of the Low Tatras.
Kingdom of hills, rocks, forests, we must never be underestimated. Thorough preparation is essential to successfully combat tours without any unpleasant experiences.
